PEN PAL & BIRTHDAY CLUB

We often say that friends make life more fun. Studies have found that older adults who have meaningful relationships and social support are likely to live longer than their peers with fewer connections. We believe that offering a variety of ways to stay connected is a big part of our mission. Our pen pal & birthday club offer our buddies a way to make friends, utilize life skills and build relationships by writing to each other.

Here is what our buddies Kristin & Brooke have to say about being a part of Beach Buddies:

What Beach Buddies means to me is seeing happy faces at our Beach Buddies events with joy, and everyone loves to have fun. That’s what it means to me. For me is the Heart of Love being there, being involved is very special to me. Seeing my best friends there and new friends too.

Another thing about Beach Buddies is that it makes me happy to have people around me, people that want to talk to me and meet me at every event. It’s all about having fun, being happy, knowing I belong there.

Kristin Nichols, Lincoln City

What beach buddies means to me … Friends make life more fun! I enjoy  hanging out with my Best friend awesome Amy and meeting new friends. My life is full of happiness and I love when other buddies hang out with me and Amy,  because as I said, Friends make life more fun.

AMY FARHAT

President/CEO-Co-Founder

From the time I was a little girl and my grandmother would take me shopping with my aunt Beverly who was on the spectrum, I knew that I had the heart, the capacity and the curiosity to learn more and be a part of helping individuals who experience IDD live their best lives.

Fast forward to 7 years ago, that experience spending time with my aunt left a permanent imprint in my heart and led me to a career as a PSW for 6 years, a supported employment job coach for 3 years and DSP for the last year before becoming the Lincoln County Care Coordinator for DSP Connections.

Living on the coast with my husband and 4 indoor cats affords me the blessing of experiencing the coastal life, walking on the beach regularly (it’s my happy place) is my therapy, finding treasure is always a bonus.

My passion for gardening and growing flowers from seed just keeps blooming… I enjoy my little greenhouse, it’s my micro “she shed”

Everyday I wake up with a renewed energy and passion to find more ways to make community inclusion and integration more accessible to EVERYONE.
